Greetings,

If you are at my website that means you are interested or curious. Either one, I am pleased that you took the time to visit me.

I hope you have read my previous works; two social commentary books; VERBAL HEALING  - We Must Reject Tired, Trite, Tasteless and other nonsensical expressions that Keep Us Damage.  A self explanatory account of how we continue to use expressions which our enemies have corned to demean, belittle and devalue us.   VICTIMS OF CONFUSION. A book that explains how our enslavement and subsequent treatment have so confused us that we are victims and don’t know it or in denial.   My fiction novel, THE QUARTERS - A fictional account of life in a little southern hamlet called the Quarters.  If not, please do so. I welcome your feedback.

I am excited about my 4th book - EMOTIONS TO LIVE WITH-Let Go and Let God.

Ruby Williams Shivers, Author of three books, Verbal Healing (We Must Reject Tired, Trite, Tasteless and other Nonsensical Expressions That Keep Us Damaged), Victims of Confusion and her first novel The Quarters. Each gives an account of Black life as created by a system of slavery and white supremacy. The Quarters is a fiction novel which relates the trials, tribulations, hopes and dreams of a community caught up in a declining culture. The actions of some of the characters are lewd, lascivious, and immoral, but The Quarters also portrays families and church folk holding on to a glorious, far-away past, struggling to live a better life, yet unable to resist the reality that has transformed them. You will meet quarter folk who live out every aspect of this declining culture and the other folk 'crazy niggas' determined to remind everyone that they are aware of who they were and the white folk who just don't 'get it'. Then there's Granny, an African icon, who answers the question on the lips of Africans even today - "Why?:

Biography

Ruby is a graduate of Seton Hall University with a BA degree in Communications. From her early days as a budding spokesperson for her local church in Lake Butler, Florida to hosting her own cable game show for teens, to writing books, advocacy and activism have been a way of life for Ruby Shivers.

"Ruby is an almost legendary grassroots organizer who has written books that reflect the deep sources of African wisdom from which her political activity has sprung," says, Dr. James C. McIntosh, co-chair of CEMOTAP-Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive Toward African People.

In her debut book, Tired, Trite and Tasteless Expressions that keep us Damaged, retitled "Verbal Healing", she artfully combines a healthy dose of 'mother wit' with plain reality to create a potent mixture of total revelation.".. Her observations go right to the point, they are pure and unadulterated. She [Ruby] barreled through centuries of racism, Jim Crowism, prejudice and media hype..." states Betty Dopson, also co-chair of CEMOTAP.

In her second book, Victims of Confusion, "Ruby won't just teach you about what it means to be confused---more importantly, she'll teach you how to break free from confusion, and release the negative baggage that's holding you back from reaching your goals." States Shamsid-Deen, president of The Power Speaker's Institute.

In her third book, a fictional novel, The Quarters, "... tales of everyday life, from births, fights, crime, violence, new jobs, affairs, marriages, sickness and deaths in the mythical small Southern town are told through the eyes of a family matriarch..." States Evelyn Apgar, Courier News correspondent.

Ruby, a resident of Plainfield, New Jersey, is hard at work on other works, which will include children books. She is dedicated to sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for Black life and culture. No stranger to this idea, Ruby produced and hosted a cable talk show for 10 years, dedicated to restoring African history to our children. She also, along with family members, created a scholarship fund in honor of her deceased father for graduating seniors in Lake Butler Fla. Ruby is founder and President Emeritus of African Culture Awareness Program (ACAP) established at Mt. Teman AME Church, Elizabeth NJ where she was a member for many years and started a chapter at Ruth Fellowship Ministries, Plainfield NJ where she is presently a member. Ruby is also a founding member of Women In Support of the Million Man March (WISOMMM) and a member of The Committee To Eliminate Media Offenses Against African People (CEMOTAP). She has received awards for her tireless community service and has been written up in newspapers and appeared on talk shows across the country.

Testimonials

Ruby My Dear......

You have tackled some powerful subjects and packaged them in ways to generate discussions that will reach deeply into the minds, hearts, souls and beliefs of your readers. Be prepared for the critiques from theologians and Bible scholars.  It takes courage to expose your deepest beliefs for all to critique. You have shared your understanding of how we should possibly approach, probe and experience such emotions using the Bible as our reference.  How brave you are!  Since most of us  were  raised to embrace the word of God, examining it was tantamount to heresy. Perhaps, there has been so little examination of these potent emotions because we have been taught from youth to fear God. Scholarship is not exclusive to those who have lingered within the halls of colleges and universities, scholarship is the focused and purposeful use of the mind.  My Dear, you have used yours to travel  into an area where most scholars dare not tread. You challenge us to step outside the box that most Sunday morning services put us in, and use the brain that God has given us.

"These books are page turners, compelling and thought provoking"
